Partnered Sex

If you are interested in having partnered sex, with one or multiple partners, it’s good to know how to engage in healthy sexual relationships with other people and how to make it mutually pleasurable! You deserve to engage in consensual, safe, and pleasurable sexual activities with other partners.

Communication: You and your partner(s) should have open and honest communication about what you like and don’t like. This is important both to ensure the interaction is consensual and pleasurable! Communicate to your partner what feels good and what doesn’t so that it can be as enjoyable for all or both of you as possible.

Foreplay: Foreplay can be helpful to set the mood between partners and to make the experience more enjoyable. It can also help ease nerves and tension and make for a smoother and more comfortable transition between sexual activities.

Lube: Lube is important and helpful for having enjoyable sex. The body produces some natural lubrication, but it is often not enough for enjoyable and comfortable sex (particularly penetrative sex). See below for information on where to buy lube and how to use it:

There are lots of positions you can try with your partner(s). Not every position works for everyone, and some positions may be more enjoyable than others. That’s okay! It’s also important to remember that penetrative sex is not the only form of sex. There are many different types of partnered sex to engage in.

Make sure you and your partner are getting tested for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) regularly and practicing safe sex. See our page on safer sex for more information about contraceptives, pregnancy-related, and safe sex practices.
