Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications

Welcome to Medill! To help you prepare for your Medill experience, read below to learn about all you'll engage in over the summer during the Purple Prep component of orientation.

Medill Academic Interest and Career Development Form

The Academic Interest and Career Development Form, accessible from your Purple Prep checklist, is due July 31. Please wait to complete the form until you know your AP/IB exam scores.

Placement Exams and Assessments

Requirements for the bachelor’s degree in journalism include either three units of coursework in a language other than English, credit through AP/IB exam, or proficiency in a language other than English as demonstrated on an AP/IB exam or a placement exam. Please refer to the BSJ 28 Canvas site to find out more about this requirement. For exam information and instructions, see the placement exams webpage. Online exams have July 31 completion deadlines.

Additional placement exams guidance for your school can be found in Purple Prep's June email.

Summer Advising

Medill Student Affairs and Academic Advising staff members Daniel MacKenzie, Anika Patel, Jasmyne Dias, and Julie Nogueda serve as academic advisers for all new Medill students. They are a dependable source of information and guidance as you navigate new experiences both inside and outside the classroom.

Your Medill advising team will offer group advising in late July that covers the Medill curriculum and academic options. In August, advisers will have academic planning meetings with each student individually. To accompany information from your academic advisers, you have the opportunity to access and explore Medill's BSJ 28 Canvas site (available in June) to view Medill curriculum and degree requirements.
